Americans are brainwashed. I'm a Canadian living one hour north of Detroit-- I have American friends and family, I vacation in America, I watch American TV, I read American newspapers--and unfortunately, Greek is right, you are brainwashed.
If you believe that America is liberating Afghanistan and Iraq, if you believe that this war is about terrorism, if you believe that George Bush is a humanitarian Christian, then you are brainwashed. Your media and your government are a bunch of f-cking liars, and because of the culture you are brough up in, Americans are taught not to look any other way and accept what they say as gospel.
They make you believe that the Afghan people hate Westerners because we are rich and free, that they just want to annhilate us all. They hide from you the fact that it is really just a small group of fundamentalists who hate America. They hide from you the reasons why these fundamentalists hate the West, the fact that we go in there and steal their resources and money, control their governments and dismiss the lives of the innocent people as nothing. And why do we do these things? So that we can have cheap gas, so that a handful of Western investors can line their pockets (including the Bush family--do they tell you that they have oil rights in the Middle East and that a war would help their personal family to get richer, or do they hide that from you as well?) so that the American government can look good and have more money, so that our economies can do better--which means that a few corporation owners are getting richer and putting other people out of business.
Not that I'm washing the hands of the Canadian, French, British or any other government--we are guilty as well--but we're not brainwashed.
